TEACH PIANOBATH

BECOME A PIANOBATH TEACHER….

A single mum with a tiny baby in lockdown, Penny had a vision. A beautifully immersive concert of piano and vocals, people lying on yoga mats, Steinway piano, surround sound and 150 candles. Her Pianobaths have been sold out since November 2022. She’s just set up a Pianobath Class, the first of its kind in the world, based on her popular live events. If you’d like to come along, it’s at the lovely Revitalise yoga studio in Hove, 27 August. If you’d be interested in learning how to teach Pianobath, either for classes, schools, special needs or festivals it’s a great opportunity to see the Class in action. Book tickets here.

THE PIANOBATH CLASS

At a live Pianobath event, attendees enjoy a Pianobath (60 minutes) followed by a short Toning session at the end (5 minutes). At the Pianobath for Women the Pianobath is slightly shorter (50 minutes), with a longer Toning session (about 25 minutes). In our online subscription, Pianobath Members can access a big library of Pianobath, Toning and Meditation and combinations of these, plus wellbeing posts, resources, FAQs and email support (see Membership page for more info).

The Pianobath Class offers a beautiful soundbath experience and powerful sound healing, for both teacher and participants. It has a more practical approach than the live events, aiming to give some instruction of the 3 Pianobath elements: Pianobath, Toning and Pianobath Meditation. Unlike a live Pianobath, where Penny plays the piano and sings, with surround speakers (requiring a sound engineer to set up etc.), the Class uses the beautifully recorded Pianobath music, with the teacher having plenty of creative input, by introducing the Class, guiding the Pianobath, leading the way with the Toning session, and talking through the meditation (with scripts or off-piste). There are beautiful intros and final OMs which are based on group Toning and have piano and vocal in the background. This makes the Pianobath Class portable and suitable for most spaces, and even potentially outdoors.

Penny is currently creating a Teachers’ area (ready by end of September 2023) with access to a wide variety of classes, including shorter 30 minute sessions suitable for children, 60 min and 90 classes, all with high quality (.WAV) recordings and bullet point class plans, downloadable PDFs of meditation scripts, and clear, easy guides and reminders of key areas to cover in the class. There will be a half day training for a one-off fee and access to the Teaching area and materials on an ‘honesty box’ basis, but starting from £10 monthly subscription. Penny will be working behind the scenes to update and add to the Pianobath Class material over time, and will very much welcome Teachers’ feedback to finetune and develop the ideas..

WHAT DO I NEED TO TEACH?

Firstly. a good level of confidence in Toning is probably the main thing as well as holding a space for people to connect to themselves and the music. People can by shy with something new like a Pianobath. While they might be familiar with soundbaths, a Pianobaths can be a bit of an unknown. Attendees are invited to join in the Toning (but are also welcome to just listen) as this can really increase the benefits, so a confident approach to Toning is important - you don’t have to be a singer as such, but being able to sound the Toning notes is a must, as it encourages others to join in and helps to create a lovely harmony with the music (the Pianobath music clearly gives the tone making it easy to follow). A calm and relaxing presence is also ideal for a Pianobath class. Plus a good portable speaker that fills the room with beautiful sound is the key piece of equipment needed. If teachers can otherwise create an atmosphere with candles, or low lighting, that’s a bonus. Plus some studios or venues will need to schedule the Class so the relatively loud volume of group Toning and the Pianobath music playing doesn’t disturb other classes.
