PIANOBATH FAQs
ALL YOUR ANSWERS HERE…
If your question isn’t dealt with below please feel free to message me, Penny, a human being, at penny@pianobath.co.uk. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!
Can I do a Pianobath in the bath?
Had to start with this one… yes, people do ask me! The answer is: Yes, if you’re a member streaming one of the online Pianobaths. You can do a Pianobath, a Toning or Meditation anywhere you like. Probably not recommended if you’re using heavy machinery, driving a tractor, suchlike. But some members i know work out to the Library, or freeflow donce. Come up with your own way and let me know! At our live Pianobath events there’s no water involved at all, unless you bring your own in a bottle.
Is Pianobath good to do regularly?
There are no shoulds or oughts about this really, but if sound works for you, if you enjoy the Pianobaths, Tonings and Meditations it’s a wonderful addition to any wellbeing practices you already have, or it might be the perfect way to bring more wellbeing into your life if you’re a bit short on that. The music is beautiful, the meditations are simple, there’s a good choice of timings to suit your level of busyness. And it’s powerful stuff. You could do a meditation every night, and a Pianobath when you’re in the mood. Toning is amazing for when you feel particularly blocked or stuck with something. Or for clearing and balancing yourself. Mix and match them, combine the tracks in anyway you like, as well as the combos i’ve already put up in the Library. I’ll be adding new tracks to the Library all the time, and i’ll email when I have added any juicy new material to the Members Area.
Are there any side-effects of Pianobath?
Yes, too much happiness and joy! Well, I’d say, like any powerful practice, build up slowly, especially with the Toning, rather than plunging straight in to do more than an hour or so each day… There can be quite a release or clearing which you may experience over the subsequent 2-3 days, for example you may feel some emotional stuff coming up, you may have a spontaneous cry, for example, or just feel a bit flat. Just be kind to yourself, and let yourself feel whatever comes up. Having said that, a lot of people have told me they expected to get really emotional, but actually feel really calm and uplifted by the music. Powerful, hypnotic music can really connect us to our true centre and help us feel grounded and energised. Keep an eye out for signs, opportunities, synchronicities in the day or two following your Pianobath/Toning or Meditation. People i know have said they get sudden creative urges following a long Pianobath or Toning session. For sure if you’re doing an hour session or more, do drink lots of water afterwards and if you can, take some time to relax afterwards. Think of it as if you’d had a massage or other treatment.
Do i have to lie down to experience a Pianobath?
Doing your own home Pianobath, or Toning or Meditation, find a lying or seated position that’s comfy for you. Make any arrangements, such as turning your phone off, or silencing the door buzzer, light a candle, etc that will make you feel you can really relax. At our live Pianobath you can have a seat, or lie on a yoga mat.
What can I expect to feel in a Pianobath, Toning or Meditation?
Everybody has a different experience. During a Pianobath some people just feel very relaxed, some fall asleep (see below), some experience a real journey, or see ancient images, colours, some just feel some emotions coming and going. What everyone seems to agree on when they leave my live Pianobaths, judging from the comments, is a a deep sense of peace and feeling upifted. However, i can’t guarantee that. If you feel sad, or tearful, if it brings up difficult stuff for you, maybe that’s what you need to feel. Let it out. Have a box of tissues handy. Feel the feelings, rather than running away from them. It’s transformative and powerfully healing to actually feel our feelings. We often spend our lives distracting ourselves with addictions, or watching telly, self-medicating, being overly busy. By allowing ourselves to have quality time with ourselves and our emotions, we are doing something truly amazing, a real piece of self-care. However, if you feel too upset, please also be kind to yourself. you can always pause the track. Make a brew, run a bath. And come back to it another time. Perhaps it’s enough just to feel part of the feeling, and revisit another time. See Links page for some wonderful wellbeing practices and uplifting material/talks that can support you on the road to wellness. Feel free to email me, Penny, if you have any specific questions, and i’ll do my best to help!
What if I fall asleep during a live Pianobath?
Obviously, doing your own private Pianobath or meditation, no need to worry. The koshi bells at the end of each track will waken you. Or set a gentle alarm if you’ve a habit of nodding off and need to be awake at some point. If you’re in bed and it’s night-time, hey presto, job done! If you’re at a live Pianobath, don’t worry, we have a gentle “nudge me if i snore policy” that we agree at the beginning, to ensure a loud, continuous snorer is gently tapped on the shoulder by their neighbour and can then readjust their position. That ensures it’s a restful experience for everyone. Plus there are usually options to take a seat if you keep falling asleep and snoring! During the past year we’re had very few snoring issues, most people find they deeply relax but don’t drop off! So please come along, relax, you’re all taken care of.
What if I want to experience a live Pianobath?
Please see the homepage of the website (or link below) for our live events and latest dates. There is the monthly Pianobath at the Unitarian Church, in Brighton, the Pianobath for Women (in Hove every month - address in Brunswick Square provided when you book). Come try them all. There’s no limit to feeling good!
Do I have to be able to sing to Tone?
Absolutely not! See our post on “how to Tone” in the Posts page, but it’s more about using the tone, or sound you make, to focus, to go within, and to feel into your body. The more you can ignore the machinations of the monkey mind, the better. You’re not auditioning, you’re not on Britain’s got Talent, you’re using the most powerful healing tool, your voice, for your own wellbeing. Just being comfortable toning, even if you’re on your own, is a great thing for confidence. One lady who came to a Pianobath and tried the 5-minute toning session at the end, told me she joined a choir shortly afterwards, having never really thought she could sing. You might be surprised what the Toning opens up for you, whether it’s something to do with singing, or speaking your truth, feeling more confident in certain situations, clearing some blocks, physical or emotional, it’s amazing stuff, do it!
